For years (ok the plural makes it sound a bit more dramatic and longer than it actually has been, which is about 3 years) I have been wanting a pair of Frye campus 14L boots. Even though I’m now in college and should be a bet more frugal with my spending ways, since my parents will be writing out heart-attack-inducing-sized check this week for second semester, I’m in college! I walk everywhere, it’s winter, and goddamn it I need a pair of sturdy boots. Even though I’ve been convincing myself that I should stop buying leather shoes, if I buy these, they really will be my last pair.
So should I do it? Should I break down and spend the 200-something dollars? And what color?

Saddle, banana, or dark brown? I think I prefer saddle…
As a man who owns many pairs of Frye boots, the price at first can be a bit daunting. That being said, they are worth every penny. I just had my first pair of Frye Engineer boots resoled, 12 years after I got them. BTW, they were worn daily. Quality is expensive, but the quality of Frye boots is unheard of.
If you choose to buy a pair, have fun. Breaking them in is part of the adventure!
BTW, I own the “banana” color. They darken with age and good neatsfoot oilings.
I love love love my Fryes (is that the plural?? I’ve been wondering. .. ). In doing your shopping though — don’t overlook ebay. I’ve gotten amazing campus boots on auction for less than 1/2 of retail — and often already broken in! Good Luck. You will not regret your decision. Once you start wearing Fryes they become a part of your personality.
I got a pair of vintage frye boots that are awesome! They make almost any outfit better. You should go for it.
YAA Adding this to my bookmarks. Thank You
I unfortunately did not have the same experience as everyone else. My Frye boots (engineer R) stitches came apart every time. I went through two Engineer series and now they are refunding my money back.
They have superb service but unfortunately i cannot recommend them. I never put any stress on the boots. I work in an office where the most daunting task is having to walk to my car.
